Places to visit

In normal times, EYES has a full programme of visits to exhibitions and shows. We have suspended these activities due to covid, as there are so many complications in organising travel for groups, even over a short distance.

We are proposing a trip to The British Quilt and Stitch Village at Uttoxeter racecourse on Saturday, 23rd April 2022. Based on a minimum of 40 participants, we hope to keep the cost of coach travel and entrance ticket to approximately £27 for members. If you have non- member friends who would also like to come along, the cost to them will be in the region of £30. We have already had some interest shown, but really need to know at the January meeting whether we have enough to make this viable. If we do, payment would be due in February and March. Please see their website for more details –
Obviously, things could change in line with Covid guidance nearer the time, but we are very pleased to be beginning to get our programme of trips up and running again.

Until it is safe to get back to normal, our team will keep an eye open for events you might like to go to under your own steam:

Bankfield Museum, Belonging: Fashion & A Sense of Place until 5th March 2022: Exploring the influence of the West Riding of Yorkshire on contemporary fashion, this exhibition brings together works from a range of fashion designers and creatives who have been inspired by the many elements that make the area unique. Drawing on themes such as landscape, community spirit, wit and humour and the enduring influence of the textile industry, this multi-disciplinary showcase celebrates the distinctive character of the place and the creative people connected to it:

Preston Park Museum and Grounds, Stockton on Tees, TS18 3RJ

Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Wakefield, WF4 4LG
Annie Morris: When A Happy Thing Falls Open Air and The Weston Gallery – until 6 Feb 2022

YSP will display a series of sculpture and tapestry by British artist Annie Morris in her first UK, solo museum exhibition.

Made specifically for this exhibition, YSP’s Weston Gallery is transformed by a dense selection of Morris’ vibrant, pigmented, sculptures alongside one of the artist’s ‘thread paintings’. The immersive installation reflects the experience and energy of her studio, where the immediacy of her drawn and stitched work is in conversation with sculptures in various stages of creation.

Spring Quilt Festival, Exhibition Hall 2, Great Yorkshire Showground, Harrogate HG2 8NZ

Friday, 18 – Sunday, 20 February, 2022 10.00a.m – 4.30pm (4pm Sunday)

We are always keen to hear of other textile-related events and exhibitions, so please keep your ears to the ground and let us know of anything you think might be of interest to EYES members.
