Public Choice Award

Well done to Sue Mower for winning the Public Choice award in the 2024 exhibition

An Eyes Workshop taken by Abigail Mill inspired Sue to use a photo taken while out cycling in the area to base her work on.

The process was to lay out materials from her stash, cutting shapes then using machine embroidery to create the scene.  The idea for the seed flowers came from  a past workshop where we machine embroidered on to felt.  They were cut out and applied to the picture to produce the finished item.

Alongside the amazing work of our members, there were some additional challenges set by the committee:

CHINESE WHISPERS: 20 members took part in 5 chains. This first member in each chain was asked to create a piece based on a photograph, each subsequent member in the chain was then given only a photo of the previous piece as inspiration. This produced very varied work, and it was interesting to see the progression (and differences!) from the original.

STOMACHERS and HEARTS: Working from patterns and stencils, members produced a variety of items, taking inspiration from different media, periods, or techniques.
